Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Clean Ganga initiative has caught the attention of spiritual leader Mata Amritanandamayi Devi, who will donate Rs 100 crore towards the Prime Minister’s ‘Namami Gange’ Project.
Amritanandamayi Devi, popularly known as Amma, had a discussion with the prime minister during her visit to the Capital in March this year, regarding the possibility of involvement of the Mata Amritanandamayi Math in the Clean Ganga Project. At that time, Modi had expressed his gratitude to Amma for the Math’s environmental initiatives, which were very much in line with his own Swachch Bharat programme.

The Mata Amritanandamayi Math had launched its Amala Bharatam Campaign (ABC) in 2010 aiming to improve public health and restore India’s physical beauty. Earlier, Modi had visited Amma’s ashram in September 2013 when he had addressed a huge gathering on the occasion of her 60th birthday celebrations.
