Chaitra Navratri Day 5: Worship of Maa Skandamata – The Divine Mother of Courage & Compassion

🕉️ Who is Maa Skandamata?

Maa Skandamata is the fifth form of Goddess Durga, and is worshipped as the mother of Lord Skanda (Kartikeya), the god of war. She rides a lion and carries little Skanda in her lap, symbolizing her protective and nurturing nature.

The goddess has four arms — two hold lotuses, one holds baby Skanda, and the fourth is in Abhaya Mudra (gesture of blessing). Her presence is calm, loving, yet fiercely protective.

📜 The Story of Maa Skandamata:

After intense penance, Parvati gave birth to Kartikeya (Skanda), who was destined to destroy the demon Tarakasura. When the time came, she took on the form of Skandamata — the mother who empowers her child to face evil.

Despite being the mother of a warrior god, she exudes peace and selfless love. Worshipping her is said to bless devotees not just with strength, but also with wisdom, joy, and spiritual growth.

🔮 Symbolism:

  • Lotuses in her hands: Blossoming purity and enlightenment
  • Skanda in her lap: Balance between motherhood and purpose
  • Lion mount: Strength and protective instinct
  • Calm demeanor: Inner peace despite outer responsibility

⚪ Color of the Day: White

White symbolizes purity, peace, and motherhood. Wearing white today brings a sense of serenity and divine connection.
