The third day of Navaratri is celebrated with keeping Maa Chandraghanta in mind who is worshipped for prosperity, peace and tranquility. She is the married form of Goddess Parvati, who after marrying Lord Shiva started adorning her forehead with half Chandra which looks like a bell, giving her the name Chandraghanta.
As the representation of Supreme bliss and knowledge, it is believed that Maa Chandraghanta’s blessings remove all sins, sufferings and negative energies that surround this universe.
Her ride is the tiger, inspiring her devotees to be fearless. She is known for her beauty that is often compared to the moon. She is depicted with ten hands. In her four left hands she carries a trishul, gada, sword, kamandal and keeps the fifth hand in Varada Mudra. This mudra is a gesture of generosity, compassion and a dispenser of boons.
She carries a lotus, an arrow, dhanush and japa mala in her four right hands while keeping the fifth hand in Abhaya Mudra. This mudra is a gesture of reassurance and safety which dispels fear and accords divine protection.
Goddess Parvati, in her form as Maa Chandraghanta is ready for war with all her weapons. Her complexion is golden. The devotees who worship and adore her develop an aura of divine splendor.

या देवी सर्वभूतेषु माँ चंद्रघंटा रूपेण संस्थिता।

पिंडजप्रवरारुढ़ा चन्दकोपास्त्रकैर्युता !
प्रसादं तनुते मह्यं चन्द्रघंटेति विश्रुता !! –
I worship the illustrious Goddess Chandraghanta,
who wears the bell-shaped moon on her forehead.
May she forgive all the bad deeds I have done in my life.
Those who worship Maa Chandraghanta on the third day of Navratri are blessed with eternal strength and everlasting happiness. On this day one should offer milk, sweets and kheer to her.
दुर्गा जी का चंद्रघंटा अवतार
दुर्गा जी का तीसरा अवतार चंद्रघंटा हैं। देवी के माथे पर घंटे के आकार का अर्धचंद्र होने के कारण इन्हें चंद्रघंटा कहा जाता है। दअपने मस्तक पर घंटे के आकार के अर्धचन्द्र को धारण करने के कारण माँ “चंद्रघंटा” नाम से पुकारी जाती हैं। अपने वाहन सिंह पर सवार माँ का यह स्वरुप युद्ध व दुष्टों का नाश करने के लिए तत्पर रहता है। चंद्रघंटा को स्वर की देवी भी कहा जाता है।
देवी चंद्रघंटा का स्वरूप
देवी चंद्रघंटा का स्वरूप बहुत ही अद्भुत है। इनके दस हाथ हैं जिनमें इन्होंने शंख, कमल, धनुष-बाण, तलवार, कमंडल, त्रिशूल, गदा आदि शस्त्र धारण कर रखे हैं। इनके माथे पर स्वर्णिम घंटे के आकार का चांद बना हुआ है और इनके गले में सफेद फूलों की माला है। चंद्रघंटा की सवारी सिंह है।
चंद्रघंटा देवी की मान्यता
देवी चंद्रघंटा का स्वरूप सदा ही युद्ध के लिए उद्यत रहने वाला दिखाई देता है। माना जाता है कि इनके घंटे की तेज व भयानक ध्वनि से दानव, अत्याचारी और राक्षस डरते हैं। देवी चंद्रघंटा की साधन करने वालों को अलौकिक सुख प्राप्त होता है तथा दिव्य ध्वनि सुनाई देती है।
माँ चंद्रघंटा का मंत्र (Mata Chandraghanta Mantra)
स्वर्ण के समान उज्जवल वर्ण वाली माँ चंद्रघंटा की पूजा का यह मंत्र है-
पिण्डज प्रवरारुढ़ा चण्डकोपास्त्र कैर्युता |
प्रसादं तनुते मह्यं चंद्र घंष्टेति विश्रुता ||
नवरात्र का तीसरा दिन (Third Day of Navratri): मां चन्द्रघंटा की पूजा नवरात्र के तीसरे दिन की जाती है। साल 2015 में मां चन्द्रघंटा जी की पूजा-अर्चना 16 अक्टूबर को की जाएगी।
पूजा में उपयोगी खाद्य साम्रगी: तृतीया के दिन भगवती की पूजा में दूध की प्रधानता होनी चाहिए और पूजन के उपरांत वह दूध ब्राह्मण को देना उचित माना जाता है। इस दिन सिंदूर लगाने का भी रिवाज है।
विशेष: इनकी उपासना से मनुष्य समस्त सांसारिक कष्टों से मुक्ति पाता है|
