Those who have been arrested in Faridkot have been identified as Rupinder Singh and Jaswinder Singh. They are real brothers and were traced on the basis of phone calls which were intercepted on October 15 and 16. ADGP IPS Sahota said that both the accused were in touch with an Australia based operative who lured both with money to desecrate the holy books.

“We have arrested Rupinder Singh and Jaswinder Singh who have confessed having desecrated Guru Granth Sahib. They are being interrogated to get more details. The investigations are on,” IPS Sahota said.

Sahota said that the accused besides making phone calls to Australia also made calls to Dubai. The police did not disclose the identity of the persons who were guiding Rupinder and Jaswinder from Dubai and Australia. The police though did not rule out the involvement of Khalistan and Pakistan based terror outfits .

The police said it is investigating the foreign transactions which were made from Australia. The arrested brothers are being interrogated to trace their links to terror groups. The police will also interrogate four others including a woman who were arrested from Ludhiana and Amritsar.
